A powerful earthquake, the largest made in Virginia since 1897,struck yesterday the U.S. East Coast and was felt also till Canada,shaking buildings in many cities, causing delays to flights and rail routes and making thousands of workers to leave the streets in panic .
There were no reports of major damage or injuries from theearthquake of magnitude 5.8 degrees, the focus of which was located in Mineral, Virginia and at a depth of only 1 km.
