Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati on Thursday announced a new system for land acquisition policy aimed at putting an end to forcible acquisition of land by the government.
Under it, the government’s role would be reduced to that of a ‘facilitator’. The negotiations and transfer of land would be done by the farmer directly with the private developer or government authority. The policy also makes it mandatory for a 70% consensus among farmers/ landowners of the area where the land is to be acquired.
